Care Services in Sheffield
The structure of our organisation allows for good effective support and supervision of staff working in the community, demonstrated by meeting all standards set by the Care Quality Commission in our last published report. There is also a good staff retention level which is appreciated by service users and their families who feel more able to build trust accordingly, often leading to recommendation of the services we can offer.
Home Alternative also provides a range of staff training which has recently included sessions with specialists in understanding Dementia and Huntingdon’s disease. New carers receive time to complete online training working towards obtaining The Care Certificate, or refreshing their knowledge for more long serving members.
Service users and their families can rely on a care plan being developed and followed which will meet their needs, whether these are meal preparation and administering medication, personal care, shopping or social visits/outings or taking someone to a medical appointment. Relatives inform us they are grateful to able to contact the office for advice and support about their loved one.
Moya Moore the registered manager has built good relationships with both social care and health sectors locally, including social workers, GPs and district nurses, so that linking with these services can generate more holistic support for our service users.
Families still stay in touch with Home Alternative even after they have ceased to require our services, or request occasional carer visits to maintain continuity when a relative has needed to enter a care home until they have settled in. Several like to attend our annual Macmillan Fundraising event and correspond with us particularly at Christmas, which we are pleased to accept as both complimentary and beneficial gestures.
